Can an electric bass with smooth strings played with a bow like a cello?

If I had to be especially smooth strings (GADS standard) size regular electric bass could be played with a horsehair bow? I ask because I've seen a bass guitar, the other day that was the size and form usual, but had a foot or leg as a bass for what could be vertical.
